Geography Month!
This past month I studied the scintillating topic of Geography. While some may think of this as a very drab subject (and it is, mind you), I found some aspects of it to be fantastically lurid. Ok. That is an exaggeration. Interesting is the right word. My goals were to learn the location of most of the countries in the world and to gain a greater appreciation of the earth and nature.
At first, I thought the most enjoyable way to learn the countries was to memorize the Yakko's World song:
As it turns out, I'm not very good at memorizing lists of foreign objects (they are all foreign except the United States), even when it is accompanied by music. However, I was able to quickly learn the country names and locations by studying a map and learning their spatial relationships with each other. To do that I used this website. After a week and a half of perfunctorily spending and hour a day, I learned most of the countries.
Other than that, I learned a little more about Geography in general and watched the Planet Earth documentary series in HD. It has incredible images but I found myself getting bored after while.
Now I don't have to feel philistine for not knowing where Bhutan is.
